FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, October 13, 2006 - An exceptional search of Kingston Penitentiary began yesterday afternoon as a result of the discovery of several homemade weapons. While there have been no incidents of violence associated with the discovery of this contraband, the Warden took a pro-active measure to ensure the safety and security of the institution.

Searching is expected to continue today through the weekend. Visits are closed until further notice.

The safety and security of our institutions is CSC's primary consideration. The institution will re-open as soon as searching is complete and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.
