FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, October 30, 2006 - On Saturday, October 28, 2006 at approximately 2:30 p.m., several correctional officers were assaulted as inmates were returning from recreation.

The situation was contained and control was regained when other staff intervened. Six inmates were identified as primary assailants and placed in the administrative segregation unit without further incident.

Some correctional officers sustained minor injuries but none were deemed life threatening. No inmate injuries were noted.

CSC is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its staff and inmates.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad will be investigating this incident. Correctional Service of Canada is also conducting an internal investigation.
