CONTRABAND AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

KINGSTON, ON, January 5, 2007 - On January 2, 2007 while searching the private family visiting unit, correctional officers, with the aid of the drug detection dog, found two packages of contraband under the mattress in the main bedroom of the unit.

The packages contained a significant amount of what is believed to be hashish, cocaine, and marijuana. The package also contained 28 Oxycontin pills. Institutional value of the drugs is estimated at $10,500.

Police will be investigating and charges could be laid.

CSC has a zero-tolerance policy on drugs in federal institution. It is through the professionalism of staff and the cooperation of police officials that the prevention of the entry of drugs into our institutions is possible.
