FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, January 22, 2007 - At approximately 1340hrs on Friday, January 19, 2007, a correctional supervisor and a correctional officer were assaulted by an inmate at Bath Institution. Both officers were taken to hospital and the offender was immediately placed into segregation. The emergency response team were utilized to transfer the offender to Kingston Penitentiary.

The officers were treated at hospital and have been released.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its staff and inmates.

Police have been notified and will be conducting an investigation. CSC is also conducting an internal investigation.

The institution was locked down immediately following the incident but has since returned to normal routine.
