FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, January 22, 2007 - On Saturday January 20, 2007 at approx. 14:20 hours staff discovered an inmate unconscious in the institutional gym. The inmate was transported to Kingston General Hospital by ambulance where he remains at this time with serious head injuries, the result of a suspected assault.

No other inmates were injured and there were no staff injured in this incident. The Joint Forces Police/Corrections investigation unit has been contacted. No charges have been laid at this time. The institution remains on normal routine.

Correctional Service Canada will be conducting an investigation into this incident.
