FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT KINGSTON PENITENTIARY

KINGSTON, ON, February 5, 2007 - A 33-year-old offender serving an indeterminate sentence for 2nd degree murder commencing December 2000 collapsed on the morning of February 5, 2007. Staff responded immediately and administered first aid. He was pronounced dead at approximately 0930 hours. His name is not being released as next of kin have not been notified.

The Joint Police Forces Penitentiary Squad is investigating and cause of death is unknown. At this time though, foul play is not suspected. An internal investigation will be convened and a coroner's inquest will be convened at a later date.
