FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, February 19, 2007 - At approximately 14:10 hours on February 18th, 2007, inmate Edward Weeds, age 71, passed away of natural causes. The inmate had been at Kingston General Hospital for four days, while under the jurisdiction of Pittsburgh Institution.

Edward Weeds was serving a life sentence for second degree murder. His sentence commenced on January 28 th , 1988 . This was Mr. Weeds first federal term. Funeral arrangements are underway.

Correctional Service Canada will be conducting an internal investigation and a coroner's inquest will be convened at a later date.
