CONTRABAND AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

KINGSTON, ON, March 2, 2007 - As a result of intelligence information gathered by correctional staff, a contract employee was intercepted while entering Joyceville Institution yesterday morning.

Thanks to the diligence of institutional staff and the drug detection dog, a quantity of marijuana was seized prior to entering medium-security Joyceville Institution. Working in conjunction with police, a total of 330.4 grams of marijuana, and 30 perkoset pills with an estimated institutional value of $20,000 were confiscated by police officers; this includes the quantity seized on the property of Joyceville Institution as well as other locations.

The suspect has been charged by police with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities. Through the professionalism of our staff and the cooperation of police officials, a significant entry of drugs to our facility has been prevented.
