FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, March 9, 2007 - On March 8, 2007, inmate Victor Hugo Contreras, age 55, passed away of natural causes. The inmate was in the palliative care unit at the Regional Hospital within Kingston Penitentiary when he passed away.

Victor Contreras was serving a sentence of 2 years, 2 months and 1 day for convictions of impaired driving, driving while disqualified, theft under, and fail to comply with probation.

Next of kin have been notified and funeral arrangements are underway.

Correctional Service Canada will be conducting an internal investigation and a coroner's inquest will be convened at a later date.
