KINGSTON, ON, April 10, 2007 - As a result of intelligence information gathered by correctional staff, two inmates were apprehended in a cell block at Joyceville Institution on April 8, 2007 by Correctional Officers assigned to the supervision of that area. Approximately 3 grams of heroin packaged in preparation for distribution, with an estimated value of $11,000 was found in the possession of these offenders.
Both inmates have been segregated and police are being contacted to lay criminal charges.
The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities.
As a result of this timely action by our correctional staff, a significant amount of illicit drugs have been effectively removed from our institution.
