FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KINGSTON, ON, April 12, 2007 - Correctional officers assigned to monitor the institutional visiting area intercepted an offender as result of suspicious behavior during a visit. As a result, the offender was strip searched and a package weighing 3.5 grams of marijuana and cocaine was recovered with an estimated value of $4000.
The inmate's visitor was detained and police attended the institution and charges were laid.
The offender remains in segregation.
The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities.
As a result of this action by our correctional staff, a significant amount of illicit drugs have been prevented from entering our institution.
