FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, May 7, 2007 - At approximately 14:20 hrs on May 5, 2007, two inmates at Joyceville Institution were assaulted in the recreation area. Both offenders were sent to outside hospital for treatment and assessment of puncture wounds, one offender remains in hospital in stable condition, the other has been treated and returned to the institution.

Due to immediate staff intervention the incident was controlled and the recreation area was isolated. Four offenders have been segregated pending the investigation of the Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad.

The institution resumed normal routine this morning; the recreation area will remain closed pending a thorough search of the area and the completion of the investigation of this incident.

The institution remains quiet, and is presently operating on a normal work routine.
