FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTRABAND AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

KINGSTON, ON, May 7, 2007 - As a result of intelligence information gathered by correctional staff at Joyceville Institution and shared with the Kingston Police Drug Unit on May 3, 2007, a visitor destined for Joyceville for the purpose of participating in a private family visit with an inmate was intercepted by the Police Drug Unit at the local train station.

This person was arrested and was found to be in possession of 28 - 200mg Morphine pills and a ˝ ounce of cocaine with an estimated institutional value of $14,600.

The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in its facilities.

As a result of this timely action and information sharing by our staff with local police, and the cooperation of the Kingston Drug Unit, a significant amount of illicit drugs have been effectively prevented from entering our institution.
