FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, May 10, 2007 - An exceptional search for weapons and drugs was initiated by the Warden on May 10, 2007 at Joyceville Institution as a result of a series of recent developments within the population.

The institution remains locked down and visits are canceled until further notice. Private family visits that are prescheduled will proceed as normal.

Visitors are asked to call the institution before traveling to the site to get updates on visiting status.

The decision to lock the institution down is a proactive measure taken by the Warden to maintain a safe work environment for staff, and a safe living environment for inmates at this site.

The safety and security of our institution is our first priority. The institution will re-open once the searching is complete and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.
