FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTRABAND AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

KINGSTON, ON, May 28, 2007 - Joyceville correctional staff, acting on intelligence information gathered at the institution, intercepted and detained a female visitor who had traveled to Joyceville to participate in a family social event at the facility on May 26, 2007.

The visitor was detained prior to entry to the facility by correctional staff at approximately 11:00 am and Kingston City Police were called to investigate. Kingston City Police arrived, interviewed the suspect, and retrieved a package from the suspect containing 32 grams of marijuana and 13.5 grams of heroin with an estimated institutional value of $16,700. Charges were laid accordingly against the visitor, and charges are pending for the offender who was waiting to receive this visitor at the family social event.

The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities.

As a result of this timely action by our correctional staff, and the cooperation of the Kingston City Police, a significant amount of illicit drugs have been prevented from entering our institution.
