FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAMPBELLFORD, ON, June 14, 2007 - At approximately 1330 hours on June 13th, 2007, an inmate at Warkworth Institution was assaulted in a common walkway. The offender was sent to outside hospital for treatment and assessment of puncture wounds. The offender remains in hospital in stable condition. There were no injuries to other inmates or staff. Currently the institution remains locked down.

Regular visits and programs have been suspended until further notice.

As per the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) policy, staff is conducting a thorough search of the institution.

Investigations are currently underway by CSC and the OPP Northumberland Crime Unit.

CSC is confident that all measures taken regarding this incident will ensure the safety of the public, staff and inmates.
