FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, January 10, 2008 - An exceptional search of Collins Bay Institution commenced on Wednesday January 9, 2008, as a result of a number of reports over the last month indicating there was homemade brew being produced in the institution. The searching is limited to unit 3 and recreation areas at this time. Unit 4 remains on a modified routine. Normal institutional operations are suspended until the conclusion of the search.

Members of the public attending the institution for visits are asked to contact the institution prior to making travel arrangements.

The consumption of alcohol in the institution seriously jeopardizes the security of the institution in that this activity has in the past been the catalyst for assaults and disturbances. The safety and security of our institutions is CSC's primary consideration. The institution will re-open as soon as searching is complete and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.
