LOCKDOWN AT MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

BATH, ON, February 18, 2008 - Millhaven Institution is currently on lockdown status following a number of incidents over the weekend.

On Friday February 15, 2008 a staff member sustained minor injuries when he was assaulted by a non-compliant inmate. The inmate was controlled by other staff and was placed in segregation. The staff member received medical attention and returned to work the following day.

On Friday February 15 and Saturday February 16, the offenders in the maximum security J unit blocked windows and set small fires on the ranges. The Institutional Emergency Response Team was brought in to help return things to normal. Negotiations with the inmates have continued.

Subsequent to the above, on Sunday February 17 a weapon was discovered by staff. The Institution has been placed on lockdown status and all visits have been suspended until further notice.

The lockdown has been put in place in order to facilitate a search of the facility while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
