FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bath, ON, February 27, 2008 - On February 25th, 2008 Brett Walent an inmate at Millhaven Institution died of an apparent suicide while in custody.

Mr. Walent was 46 years old and serving a life sentence for second degree murder. Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are investigating this incident. In addition, Correctional Services Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
