FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRAVENHURST, ON, March 3, 2008 - On Sunday, March 2, 2008 inmates at Fenbrook Institution were placed under lockdown status, in order for staff to facilitate a search of the facility.

The search was ordered by the warden following receipt of information that there was contraband within the institution. Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has been assisted in searching efforts by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Searching of the institution is ongoing, and normal institutional operations are suspended until the conclusion of the search.

Visits have been suspended until the search has been completed. 

The lockdown has been put in place in order to facilitate a search of the facility while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
