FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT KINGSTON PENITENTIARY

KINGSTON, ON, May 2, 2008 - On May 1st, 2008 Iourii Mechko, an inmate from Kingston Penitentiary died of natural causes.

Mr. Mechko was 58 years old and was serving a life sentence for murder.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been called to investigate. The Correctional Services Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
