FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BATH, ON, June 13, 2008 - On Thursday June 12, 2008 at approximately 18:30, during an inmate fight that took place in the recreation yard of Millhaven Institution, an inmate was assaulted and suffered serious injuries. The inmate was immediately taken to Kingston General Hospital and had to undergo surgery. He remains in critical condition and his injuries are listed as life threatening.
The area has been secured and the institution has been placed on modified routine. Visits are continuing at this time.
The Ontario Provincial Police Pen Squad was contacted and is presently conducting an investigation. The Correctional Service of Canada will continue to work with the police in an effort to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and take action as necessary.
