CONTRABAND AT KINGSTON PENITENTIARY

KINGSTON, ON, July 7, 2008 - On Sunday July 6, 2008, after a month long investigation by the Kingston Penitentiary Security Intelligence Department, two individuals were apprehended and arrested by the City of Kingston Police in a park adjacent to the institution. This arrest was the result of interdictions made and information received that drugs were going to be thrown over the wall of Kingston Penitentiary at that time. One of the individuals had recently been released from Kingston Penitentiary.

The drugs seized were: 291.5 grams of marijuana, ecstasy, methamphetamine and tobacco products for an estimated institutional value of $45,000.

CSC has a number of tools available that are used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as searches of offenders and visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs, searches of buildings and cells, and retrieval of information from various sources that are believed to be reliable.
