CONTRABAND AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

KINGSTON, ON, July 30, 2008 - On July 25, 2008, 100 g. of marihuana was seized as a result of a search of items being sent to an inmate from the community. The estimated institutional value of the drugs seized is $10,000. The OPP Penitentiary Squad is investigating this incident.

On July 27, 2008, an inmate visitor attempted to introduce 77 g. of marihuana and 30 ecstasy pills into the institution. The drugs, having an institutional value of approximately $10,000, were seized and the OPP Penitentiary Squad arrested the visitor. Charges are pending.

CSC has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as searches of offenders, visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs and searches of buildings and cells.
