CONTRABAND AT COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

KINGSTON, ON, August 25, 2008 - On Sunday August 24, 2008, Correctional staff performing a routine search of the inmate exercise yard found a suspicious package. A further search of the yard with additional staff and the drug detector dog and dog handler revealed two more similar packages. The three packages were found to contain a cell phone and charger and drugs including marijuana and a variety of pills believed to be valium, ecstasy and heroin. The total estimated institutional value of the drugs seized is $40,000. It is believed these packages were thrown over the institutional wall and destined for distribution within the institution.

No inmates have been identified as being involved at this time. An investigation is ongoing.

Preventing drugs from entering our institutions is an ongoing challenge; however, it is the diligent work of staff that helps us tackle this challenge.
