FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCKDOWN AT WARKWORTH INSTITUTION

CAMPBELLFORD, ON, September 8, 2008 - On Sunday September 7, 2008, at approximately 2200 hours, inmates at Warkworth Institution were placed under lockdown status following two separate offender assaults.

The lockdown was ordered by the Warden in order for staff to facilitate a search of the facility, while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates. Searching of the institution for weapons is ongoing and normal institutional operations are suspended until the conclusion of the search.

Visits have not been suspended.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
