EXCEPTIONAL SEARCH: COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

KINGSTON, ON, September 12, 2008 - An exceptional search of Collins Bay Institution commenced on Friday, September 12, 2008, as a result of intelligence information received indicating that there are a number of homemade weapons on one range. The searching is limited to Unit 3 at this time. Unit 4 remains on a modified routine. Normal institutional operations are suspended until the conclusion of the search.

Members of the public attending the institution for visits are asked to contact the institution prior to making travel arrangements. Visits to the institution for inmates on Unit 3 are suspended for the duration of the exceptional search.

The institution will return to a normal routine once the exceptional search has concluded and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
