KINGSTON, (Ontario), January 22, 2009 - During the early morning hours of Monday, January 19, 2009 Correctional Officers at Frontenac Institution observed, intervened and apprehended a suspicious individual leaving the Collins Bay Institution property. Correctional Officers at Collins Bay Institution subsequently searched the exercise yard and discovered a re-sewn football. It is believed the football had been recently thrown over the wall of the institution.
The football contained approximately 20 small packages and was turned over to the Kingston Police. The approximate value of the marijuana and tobacco seized is $57,000. Information on the other drugs recovered is still under investigation.
No inmates have been identified as being involved at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
