FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT AT MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

Bath, (Ontario), February 04, 2009 - On February 3, 2009 an offender from the maximum Security Unit at Millhaven Institution was assaulted in the recreation area. The offender sustained multiple stab wounds and was taken to outside hospital where he remains in stable condition. There were no injuries to staff or other inmates.

As a result of the assault three ranges in the Maximum Security Unit and the recreation area of the institution have been locked down in order to complete a search. The OPP Pen Squad and Corrections Canada are investigating the incident. Visits for the institution are unaffected.

The Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident and taker action when necessary.
