FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Inmate Assault – Joyceville, Institution

JOYCEVILLE, ONTARIO – On March 2, 2009 at approximately 18:30 an offender at Joyceville Institution was assaulted in the recreation area. The offender sustained  stab wounds and was taken to outside hospital where he remains in stable condition. There were no injuries to staff or other inmates. Joyceville Institution is currently on a modified routine.

Visits to Joyceville Institution are occurring as scheduled.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and the joint Forces Penitentiary Squad are currently investigating. Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
