EXCEPTIONAL SEARCH AT COLLINS BAY INSITUTION

Kingston, ON.  March 11, 2009 - An exceptional search of Collins Bay Institution began on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Collins Bay staff are acting on information that there may be weapons on one range.   The searching is limited to Unit 4 at this time and all remaining units are on a modified routine.  Normal institutional operations will occur with the exception of Unit 4.  While staff continue to investigate, there have been no weapons retrieved at this point.

Members of the public attending the institution for visits are asked to contact the institution prior to making travel arrangements.

The institution will return to a normal routine once the exceptional search has concluded and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
