Kingston, Ontario– As a result of intelligence information gathered by the Joyceville Institutional Security Investigation Team, a visitor was intercepted upon entering the Joyceville Institution and found to be in possession of a quantity of drugs. The visitor was among 124 people who visited the institution on Saturday, March 21 to attend a scheduled family gathering.
Thanks to the diligence of institutional staff, 26 grams of marijuana, 6 grams of crack-cocaine and 50 grams of tobacco were prevented from entering medium security Joyceville Institution. The estimated institutional value of the seizure amounted to $6500.00.
The OPP Pen squad immediately attended the Institution and charged the visitor with “Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking”.
The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities. Through the professionalism of our staff and the cooperation of police officials, a significant entry of drugs to our facility has been prevented.
