FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ASSAULT – COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

Collins Bay, Kingston, Ontario –  On March 28th, 2009 at approximately 10:00pm, an offender at Collins Bay Institution was assaulted in a living unit. The offender sustained stab wounds and was taken to outside hospital for treatment. He has since returned to the institution.

Institutional operations are normal with the exception of 7 Block, which is locked down while staff continue to investigate. It is expected that the Institution will return to a normal routine once the exceptional search has concluded and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.

Visits to Collins Bay Institution are occurring as scheduled.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and the public remains the highest priority in the Correctional Service of Canada.
