FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH, REGIONAL TREATMENT CENTRE

Kingston, (Ontario), April 4, 2009 - At approximately 1:50 am on April 4th, staff conducting a routine range walk discovered an inmate in his cell who appeared to have attempted suicide. Correctional and healthcare staff immediately initiated First Aid/CPR, which continued until Paramedics arrived on scene. Attempts to revive the inmate were unsuccessful.

Offender Mark WHITE was serving an 8 year sentence for Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference. His sentence commenced January 16th, 2003.

In all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called in to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
