LOCKDOWN AT MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

BATH, ON, April, 2009 – Millhaven Institution is currently on lockdown status following the discovery of a homemade weapon within the maximum-security unit.

On Thursday April 16, 2009 a staff member discovered a weapon in a common area on one of the Maximum Security Ranges. The Millhaven maximum-security unit has been placed on lockdown status and all visits, including the Assessment Unit, have been suspended until further notice.

The lockdown has been put in place in order to facilitate a search of the facility while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
