Lockdown – Joyceville, Institution

JOYCEVILLE, ONTARIO – April 17, 2009 –In the interest of the safety and security of the institution, the A/Warden has placed Joyceville Institution on lockdown and ordered an exceptional search for weapons and other contraband items.This was following the discovery of an empty shotgun casing by correctional staff on the grounds outside a cell block.

Searching of the institution is ongoing and normal institutional operations and visits are suspended until the conclusion of the search.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
