INMATE WORK REFUSAL AT COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

Kingston ON, May 11 2009 – Inmates at Collins Bay Institution refused to report for work and correctional programs this morning. Representatives from the management team met with the inmate committee to discuss the reasons for the work refusal. The inmate committee presented a list of issues, including the institutional routine and social development activities.

The management team will be working with the inmate committee to find solutions to the inmate concerns in an effort to have all inmates return to their regular work and program assignments as quickly as possible.

The safety and security of our institutions remains of paramount concern. There have been no reported injuries to staff or offenders as a result of this work refusal. With the exception of the work refusal, Collins Bay Institution is operating on a normal routine.
