FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Inmate Assault

Kingston, Ontario, May 27th - On May 26th, 2009 at approximately 7:50 pm an offender was assaulted at Joyceville Institution. The offender sustained serious but non life threatening injuries and was taken to Kingston Penitentiary Regional Hospital for observation. He was transferred to outside hospital for treatment and is expected to return today. There were no further injuries to staff or inmates. The routine at Joyceville Institution has not been affected.

Visits to Joyceville Institution are occurring as scheduled.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and the joint Forces Penitentiary Squad are currently investigating. Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
