DRUG SEIZURE GRAND VALLEY INSTITUTION

Kitchener, Ontario, June 1, 2009 - On May 31 at approximately 1:00 PM, Grand Valley Correctional staff intercepted a visitor attempting to introduce tobacco into the institution. CSC staff then seized approximately 45 grams of marijuana from the visitor's vehicle, located on CSC property. The combined institutional value of the tobacco and marijuana is $1000. Waterloo Regional Police were called to scene and the visitor was taken into custody.

The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities and is committed to shutting off the supply of non-medical drugs in federal institutions.

As a result of effective intelligence information gathered at the site, and timely action by our correctional staff, both the tobacco and drugs were prevented from entering our institution, thereby ensuring the safety and security of staff and offenders.
