Kingston, Ontario, June 12, 2009 – On Thursday June 11, 2009 the institutional drug dog detector team positively indicated on a visitor to Joyceville Institution. The visitor was intercepted and found to be in possession of a quantity of drugs and tobacco.
Thanks to the diligence of institutional staff, 33.5 grams of marijuana and 16 grams of tobacco were prevented from entering medium security Joyceville Institution. The estimated institutional value of the seizure amounted to $3,650.00.
The Joint Forces Penitentiary squad attended the Institution and charged the visitor with “Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking”.
Correctional Services of Canada (CSC) actively utilizes a number of tools in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions including the institutional drug dog team. Through the professionalism of our staff and the cooperation of police officials, a significant entry of drugs to our facility has been prevented.
