KINGSTON PENITENTIARY RETURNS TO NORMAL OPERATING ROUTINE

Kingston, Ontario, JULY 2, 2009 - Kingston Penitentiary has returned to normal operations as of 8:00 AM July 2, 2009 upon completion of the exceptional search that was initiated on June 29/09.

During this search, several contraband items were seized by staff from inmate cells and common areas, including five stab type weapons, tattoo paraphernalia, and brew making materials.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

The institution is currently operating under normal routine, and visiting has been reinstated.
