Bath, Ontario, July 17, 2009 – Millhaven Institution is currently on lockdown status following the discovery of a homemade weapon within the recreation area.
On Thursday, July 16, 2009 a staff member discovered a weapon in the weight room in the Maximum Security Unit. Visits for the entire institution have been cancelled for today. The community gathering scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2009 has been tentatively rescheduled to Saturday, July 25, 2009.
Visits for the Assessment Unit will resume Saturday, July 18, 2009, however visits for the Maximum Security Unit are suspended until further notice.
A lockdown has been put in place to complete a search of the facility while ensuring the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates. The facility will reopen once institutional management determines it is safe to do so.
