EXCEPTIONAL SEARCH - COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

Kingston, Ontario, July 24, 2009 - At approximately 7:30 pm July 23, 2009 an inert ammunition round was discovered in the main corridor of Collins Bay Institution. As a result a strategic search has begun and the institution is on a modified routine.

Visits have been suspended for July 24. However, while we attempt to return to normal routine, we ask that members of the public attending the institution for visits contact the institution, prior to making travel arrangements.

The institution will return to a normal routine once the search has concluded and the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
