LOCKDOWN – PITTSBURGH INSTITUTION

Kingston, August 26, 2009 - Pittsburgh Institution is locked down in order to complete a search for an unauthorized object.

The lockdown was initiated on August 26, 2009 at approximately 7:30am, after an anonymous handwritten note was received indicating that an unauthorized object could be on the premises.

Visits and programs have since been cancelled until further notice.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Pittsburgh Institution is a minimum -security federal penitentiary, housing approximately 230 male offenders.
