FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH, KINGSTON PENITENTIARY

Kingston, Ontario (August 31, 2009) - On August 24, 2009 at approximately 10:40 p.m., correctional staff observed an inmate in distress on his range. Staff offered immediate assistance and transferred the offender to Kingston General Hospital via ambulance. Christopher A. Jocko passed away at Kingston General Hospital on August 29 with his immediate family present. The cause of death appears to be natural causes.

Jocko was serving a two-year eight-month sentence for Sexual Assault, Forcible Confinement, Assault, Uttering Threats and Failure to Comply with Probation Order.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada will be conducting an investigation and a coroner’s inquest will be convened at a later date.
