KINGSTON PENITENTIARY OPENS UNDER MODIFIED ROUTINE

Kingston, Ontario, September 9, 2009 - Kingston Penitentiary has opened under a modified routine as of 1:00 PM September 9, 2009 upon completion of the exceptional search that was initiated on September 2, 2009.

During this search, several contraband items were seized by staff from inmate cells and common areas, including home-made weapons, tattoo paraphernalia, and brew-making materials.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Visiting will be reinstated Thursday, Sept10, 2009 as part of the modified routine.
