FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ALTERCATION AT MILLHAVEN INSTITUTION

BATH, ON, October 22, 2009 - On Wednesday October 21, 2009 at approximately 17:45, an inmate was assaulted while en route to the recreation area. Staff responded quickly to resolve the incident, and retrieved a handmade weapon at the scene. Inmate injuries were non life threatening and were treated at CSC Regional Hospital.

Millhaven Institution (Secure Unit) remains locked down while an exceptional search is underway. Visits are suspended and will be reassessed prior to the weekend. Visitors should contact the visit department prior to attending the institution. The rest of the Institution is operating on a regular routine.

The OPP Pen Squad was contacted and is investigating the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
