INTERCEPTION OF DRUGS AT JOYCEVILLE INSTITUTION

Joyceville, Ontario, October 27,2009 – On Sunday October 25, staff noticed a visitor acting suspiciously and trying to pass a package to an inmate. After being questioned by staff, the visitor handed over a package containing 48 grams of marijuana. The inmate was also searched and found to be in possession of an additional 18 grams of marijuana.

The OPP Pen squad attended the Institution and charged the visitor with “Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.” Charges are pending against the offender.

Thanks to the diligence of institutional staff, 66 grams of marijuana were prevented from entering medium security Joyceville Institution. The estimated institutional value of the seizure is $6600.00.

The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy on drugs in our facilities. Through the professionalism of our staff and the cooperation of police officials, a significant entry of drugs to our facility has been prevented.
