DRUG SEIZURE AT KINGSTON PENITENTIARY

Kingston, Ontario, November 12, 2009 - On Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at approximately 3:30 p.m., staff at Kingston Penitentiary sSearched an inmate who attempted to introduce contraband to the institution. One-hundred-and-four milligrams of Dilaudid, 48 milligrams Hydromorph Contin and 24.40 grams of marijuana were found concealed on the inmate's person. The estimated institutional value of the drugs is approximately $4300. Police have been notified and charges for the inmate are pending.

Preventing drugs from entering our institutions is an ongoing challenge. CSC has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as ion scanners, drug dogs, and searches of offenders, visitors, buildings and cells.

CSC wishes to remind visitors to the institution that there is a toll-free National Drug Tip Line, 1-866-780-3784 for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors, and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
