FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BATH, ON, November 16, 2009 – On Friday, November 13, 2009 staff members and the drug detector dog at Millhaven Institution detected and confiscated drugs from a visitor who had attended the institution for a scheduled visit. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) seized 61.6 grams of marijuana, 0.5 grams of cocaine, and various pills including ecstasy and oxycontin with an estimated institutional value over $9,000.
The OPP Penitentiary Squad was contacted and the visitor has been charged with trafficking for the purpose of distribution.
Drugs negatively affect rehabilitation, safety and security of our institutional environments and effect the safe reintegration of offenders into communities.
CSC detector dogs and their handlers contribute to improving public safety for Canadians both inside and outside of our institutions.
